High School

Academic Team Area Meet

On January 17th, the Shattuck High School Academic Team traveled to Pioneer-Pleasant Vale to compete in the Class 2A Area I Academic Meet. Our team played 5 rounds and came up short during the last round that would have sent our team to state. Please congratulate each of these team members for an outstanding academic season!

Behind the Scenes!

When you think of the Shattuck Shootout, your mind probably automatically goes to teams. But the work that goes on behind the scenes should not go unnoticed. This is the fourth year Sam Contreras has been instrumental in getting the programs, signage, gate passes, etc. completed and ready for the crowds. Hats off to senior Sam Contreras! I don’t know how I’ll function without you at SHS next year.

Mini Wheat Basketball Tournament

The 7th grade girls basketball team rolled into Chisholm, Oklahoma, ready for the Mini Wheat Basketball Tournament. They faced tough competition from Enid Middle School, Fairview, and Alva. Every game brought new challenges, but the girls never backed down.

They fought hard in all three games, cheering each other on from the bench and leaving everything on the court. Even in the losses, they learned valuable lessons about teamwork, hustle, and believing in themselves. By the end of the tournament, they headed home proud—stronger, smarter, and more determined for the games ahead.

Shattuck Booster club was kind enough to contribute to our after tournament lunch. Thank you!

Elephant Toothpaste?

The seventh graders crowded around the lab table, buzzing with excitement as they waited for their elephant toothpaste to explode into a giant foam tower. Goggles on and notebooks ready, they counted down together.

Three… two… one!

They poured everything in—and waited...Instead of a huge foamy blast, a small, sad bubble slowly crept up the bottle and stopped. The room went quiet, then a few kids laughed. That was it?

They checked their notes and realized what went wrong. The hydrogen peroxide they used was pretty weak, and the yeast had been sitting around a little too long. Without strong ingredients, the reaction just didn’t have the energy to go big.

Even though the experiment didn’t turn out the way they hoped, we learned something important: science doesn’t always work perfectly. Sometimes the best results come from figuring out why something failed—we will try again smarter next time.

Senior Spotlight!

Hipolito Sarabia

I’ve been in SHS since my freshman year and have enjoyed every year. I have two sisters and one dog. My favorite class would be food science. I enjoyed welding and cutting hair.
My plans after high school are to attend High Plains Technology Center and get my certification for welding. I also plan on going to cosmetology school as well and being a barber.

In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends. I also enjoy cutting hair and getting better everyday.
