SHATTUCK FFA COMPETES AT STATE OPENING CEREMONIES CONTEST

STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA - On October 24th, the Shattuck Opening & Closing Ceremonies team competed in Stillwater, Okla. at the state contest. It began with almost 400 schools across the state competing in the regional contests last week. Shattuck had two teams compete at regionals, however the contest rules allow for only one team per chapter to advance to the State Contest. After regionals were completed, 50 teams from across the state advanced to the state level. By the end of the day Tuesday , it was narrowed down to the top 8.  Although both Shattuck teams traveled to Stillwater together, only half of them competed while the other half cheered them on. The competing team consisted of Andrew Quisenberry, Saige Moore, Siren Henry, Axelle Gonzales, Dawsyn Burgess, and Evie Diss.

The final round was performed in the theater located in OSU’s Student Union, often referred to as, “the Little Theater.”  The Shattuck team didn’t feel like it was very “little” when it came time to perform and the nearly 500 seat theater was just shy of being full.  Shattuck sophomore Axelle Gonzales said, “I walked out on stage first as the Sentinel, and it was definitely scary to see how many people were watching. I had to trick myself into thinking it was just another day practicing in the school auditorium with an empty audience.”

The team nailed their performance, which can be seen on the Shattuck FFA Facebook page, and placed 4th overall.  Making the final round is quite an accomplishment on its own, but to place in the top 5 is outstanding.  Everyone of the 12 total kids that worked on Shattuck’s teams should be proud of the hard work they put in, and the results of Tuesday’s contest.

Making the final round is quite an accomplishment, and our teams represented Shattuck well. Congratulations!
