SHATTUCK FFA OFFICER SPOTLIGHT

By: Ezabela Herber

SHATTUCK, OKLAHOMA - Now that there are only three days left of summer, I have chosen to interview our fourth senior officer before school is back in session. Allyn Goodson, Shattuck FFA’s Chapter Treasurer. Allyn has been raised in Shattuck since she was born. She, along with her older brother Gatlin, have grown up around agriculture with the help of their parents farming and cattle operation. When asked what made her decide to join FFA  Allyn responded, “My family has always been heavily involved with agriculture. Growing up, I saw how passionate my parents were about farming and our cattle operation. I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my family and learn more about agriculture, and what better way to do it than in FFA!” Allyn has been active in FFA since her first day as a member, “I have always shown cattle, but now I’ve been more active in other competition areas such as speeches.” Though she has had many memories made in the FFA, Goodson says, “Despite all the memories I have made in FFA, my favorites would have to be winning the Oklahoma State Fair with my heifer, Gigi, and getting Bronze Heifer at the Woodward District Livestock Show with my other heifer, Dixie. ” I asked Allyn if she could give an upcoming FFA member advice, what would it be. She responded, “Compete in competitions, find what you’re good at, set a goal and achieve it.” Goodson is also active in the food science and farm business management contests when competing in CDE competitions. When it’s time for Blue & Gold sales, Allyn is the girl to go to. Every year the Shattuck FFA holds a banquet at the end of the year where several awards are given away to the deserving members and officers. For three years in a row, Goodson held the record for the highest sales. When asked what FFA means to her, and how it has changed her life, she said, “FFA to me means an organization that is here to teach and guide the upcoming generations about skills they will use for the rest of their lives. FFA has given me skills in public speaking and sales. Those two skills are things I will use for the rest of my life.”  Shattuck FFA is well represented by our Chapter Treasurer. Thank you Allyn for sharing your FFA experience!
