SHATTUCK FFA CHRISTMAS ANGEL TREE

SHATTUCK, OKLAHOMA- On Wednesday, December 6th, Shattuck FFA members celebrated the holidays by giving back.  Chapter officers along with some senior state degree recipients dressed up and headed to Woodward Wednesday night to shop for the annual Shattuck Christmas Angel Tree.  Each year, Shattuck community members, businesses, and school groups “adopt” angels whose families’ have requested a little additional help with Christmas gifts and holiday needs. This wonderful program, organized by SHS Guidance Counselor Gina Huenergardt, is completely anonymous, and allows every child in Shattuck the opportunity to experience a little Christmas joy.  Shattuck FFA has made angel tree shopping a tradition for the past several years, and members look forward to the experience.  Walmart customers and employees greeted the crew with smiles and laughter, one even joining in for a photo. The ladies at the customer service desk allowed Mr. Kelln to page two students via the intercom, which was most definitely a risky move on their part! Amazing memories were made with an outstanding group of Shattuck students. Shattuck FFA Secretary Oliva Quisenberry said, “ I love getting to do this every year with my fellow officers. Not only do we have fun together, but we are doing something that makes a difference.  Not everyone has a Christmas that looks like yours and mine, and this is such an easy thing that we can do to help make other kids’ holidays a little brighter.”  All but one of the Shattuck FFA officers are seniors, so it was a bittersweet night for them as they shopped as a group for the last time.  The lessons they’ve learned in the importance of community service, however, will last them a lifetime.  Shattuck FFA would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
