SHATTUCK FFA OFFICER SPOTLIGHT

By: Ezabela Herber

SHATTUCK, OKLAHOMA- School is back in session and Shattuck FFA spotlights another chapter officer. Madisen McDonald- Sanchez, Shattuck FFA’s Chaplin, is a Senior at Shattuck High School.  Madisen grew up in Southern Colorado, but moved to Shattuck last year. She has always been immersed in agriculture, as she has lived on her family’s farm her whole life. When asked what made her decide to join FFA Madisen responded, “I joined FFA because when I was a little girl, I loved being around livestock and living on my farm.  I wanted to continue to be involved with agriculture in high school and FFA was the perfect opportunity to do just that. Seeing my brother be involved in FFA and becoming a successful welder, this made me want to find what I could be successful at in the agricultural field. ” Madisen has been active in FFA since her first day as a member. She currently shows goats and sheep, she has continued to spend numerous hours studying Vet Science preparing for CDE competitions. With Madisen being so active in FFA, I decided to ask what her favorite memory made in FFA so far was. She responded, “Out of all the memories I have made in FFA, my favorite has to be all the times spent with my fellow members going on Vet Science trips. The enjoyable car conversations and the hours spent on the road with my friends is a memory I will always be thankful for.” I asked her if she could give an upcoming FFA member advice, what would it be. Her response was, “My advice to them would be to be open to trying new things and to not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. You never know what you could learn or what you might find an interest in. I would encourage you to go on all FFA trips or events you are offered to go on, you never know the kind of friends or memories you might make. ” Madisen is making sure to make the most of her final year here at Shattuck. When asked what FFA means to her, and how it has changed her life, Madisen responded with, “FFA influences the younger generations to continue the cycle of farming and future growth in agriculture. In my eyes, agriculture and farming is the backbone of the world and without it, people would not be able to survive. From raising livestock, to growing crops, to caring for honey bees and the food we eat, agriculture is involved with this and everything in between. Without FFA, I don’t think we would continue to have farmers or people involved with agriculture. FFA has changed my life by providing opportunities to learn life skills, meeting new people, and proving new interests in what agriculture can offer me.” Shattuck FFA is well represented by our Chapter Chaplin. Thank you Madisen for sharing your FFA experience!
