SHATTUCK AG MECHANICS STUDENTS TRAVEL TO WHITE’S WELDING

By: Ezabela Herber

WOODWARD, OKLAHOMA- On Tuesday, November 22nd, the Shattuck Ag Mechanics Students traveled to Woodward, OK to tour Whites Welding, a welding and fabrication company with two full-service shops based in Woodward, and Washington, PA. Founded by Calvin White in 2000, the business primarily serves the energy sectors. White’s Welding has a long and accomplished history of serving the oilfield industry and holds many accredited welding certificates, including a coil tubing certification.  “Work ethic and a positive attitude,” was the repetitive phrase of the day as 50 Shattuck ag mech students had the opportunity to tour the Woodward based shop.  General manager, Billy Riggs led the tour and showed the kids how ag mech skills apply to real world situations and careers. Trailer construction, oilfield products, fire truck construction, engine mechanics, electrical and hydraulics were some of the areas discussed.  Students were also shown the operations of a robotic welder. Mr. Riggs stressed the importance of work ethic, and what it takes to work in the welding and fabrication industry. The students even got to see several Shattuck Ag Mech alumni at work for the White’s Welding company. This experience was very beneficial for all of our students in attendance, but especially those that hope to pursue welding and engineering as a profession. We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone at White’s Welding that took time out of their schedule to facilitate such an awesome educational experience.
