SHATTUCK FFA FALL UPDATE

By: Ezabela Herber

SHATTUCK, OKLAHOMA - The past few weeks have been busy for the Shattuck FFA members as they travel across the state for State Fairs, and contests.  On September 15th, the senior livestock judging team traveled to the Oklahoma City State Fair to compete, along with several of our chapter members’ projects.  Examples include Sydney Melton’s miniature greenhouse, which won overall Reserve Grand Champion, as well as Allyn Goodson and Bela Herber placing Overall Grand and Reserve Grand in the News Reporting Division. Back in Shattuck, on October 3, some of the ag students got to partake in  processing broiler chickens at FFA ag farm. There, they learned how to clean, cut, and bag the chickens to prepare them for sale. On October 4th, the senior livestock judging team traveled to Tulsa to compete at the Tulsa State Fair. Unbeknownst to them, what appeared to be a routine judging trip quickly turned into an adventure as they were recruited to help in the chicken show alongside Shattuck 4H students Keegan and Kelton Spillman. Keegan Spillman placed 6th overall in the broiler show. The following week, on October 12th, two Shattuck teams competed in the Woodward Region Opening Ceremonies Contest, held in Shattuck. The freshmen team placed 1st, qualifying their team for the state contest on October 18th in Stillwater. The 8th grade team placed 2nd, beating out 12 other teams from our region. Also, check out the latest edition of Ag Youth magazine, which showcases several of our very own Shattuck FFA students. Not only is the senior livestock judging team’s picture on the front cover, but also the magazine features Ezabela Herber’s article on pg. 14, more information on the livestock judgers on pg. 48 and an article about Shattuck alum, Jeronimo Lara, on pg. 60.  Shattuck FFA continues to stay busy, follow us on Facebook to keep up with our latest adventures!
