SHATTUCK,OKLAHOMA – September 9-10, Shattuck FFA participated in the Ellis County Fair.

All students enrolled in ag class entered a project, most in FFA categories such as agronomy, horticulture, and ag mechanics.  In addition, this year several students from Shattuck’s Food Science class entered their own homemade pickles, which they prepared and canned themselves during a lesson on food preservation. On Saturday the 10th, area students competed in the Ellis County Livestock judging contest, Shattuck’s Sydney Melton placed high individual in the Sr. FFA category, with Karsen Stephens and Cindy Lara coming in at 4th and 5th respectively.  Following the judging contest was the county stock show.  Several 4H and FFA members from the county exhibited their animals, kicking off this year’s stock show season.

Following the county fair, projects and students headed to Oklahoma City for the State Fair which kicked off Thursday September 15th with the livestock judging contest.  Shattuck’s Senior FFA team competed against schools from across the state.  Almost 2000 students were in attendance, with over 550 students in the Senior FFA division alone. Sydney Melton finished at 6th high individual, with the team finishing in the top 20%. The judging team will have a bit of a break as they prepare to compete at the Tulsa State Fair in a few weeks.
