SHATTUCK FFA BACK TO SCHOOL

By: Ezabela Herber

SHATTUCK, OKLAHOMA - As students are getting back into the routine of going to school, the Shattuck FFA officers are excited to be planning activities for the FFA calendar. As an FFA officer myself, I can assure you we will have many fun things in store for this year, including the annual Shattuck FFA Ag Olympics, which will be held Wednesday, September 7th.  Also, the annual Ellis County Stock Show will be held September 10th through 11th.

This summer has been busier than ever.  The Fargo/Gage and Arnett FFA Chapters, along with Shattuck FFA and 4H students worked to empty and prepare the Ellis County Fair barn for improvements.  All of the Ellis county students are looking forward to the upgrades being made at our fairground facilities.

I had the privilege of attending the Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Reporter Conference in Oklahoma City, along with almost 200 students from across the state. This event was comprised of various workshops and speakers, such as Oklahoma’s Secretary of Agriculture, Blayne Arthur.

Shortly after this conference, members of the Shattuck FFA livestock judging team traveled to compete in “The Prequel” contest held in Fairview, Oklahoma. Sydney Melton, Cindy Lara, and Sadey Schoenhals placed 3rd in the senior division. The team then traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the annual OSU Big 3 Contest. Over 500 students attended this contest from multiple states. The senior team had a great run this summer and is excited to continue their practice and throughout the school year. All in all, it was a successful summer, and we are ready for a competitive year of FFA!
